    Description

Terracotta Pueblo Bear Fetish Albuquerque 2007. Condition is "Used".
In all honesty, I am very confused by this object.
I found a slip of paper, stuffed inside, which says Red Earth Pottery Native American Made Mesa Verde Colorado, however, the writing on the bear itself says Albuquerque New Mexico.
I did a little research and the artist's name on the paper is Mary Mike - there is an actual Mary Mike.
I really have no explanation why this paper would be inside of this bear. It seems misplaced to me - for one to say New Mexico & one to say Colorado.
Pueblo peoples do inhabit each of those areas which is why I thought it safe to call this Pueblo, but I can't narrow that down to a more specific tribal affiliation.
If that weren't curious enough, this bear fetish is very unusual in that it seems to be a glazed red clay or terracotta in an apricot or salmon color.
I apologize, I wish that I could tell you more, but any more would be guess work.
*there is crazing in the glaze
