    Description and attributes:
    This is a bear carved from beautiful jet with inlaid turquoise eyes. A very traditional, rough natural stone jet black bear, carved by an 86 year old carver--mother of Dave Cooeyate and grandmother of Davey Cooeyate--a long line of carvers--Mary Jane is the beginning of 3 generations of traditional Zuni carvers! We purchased this bear directly from Mary Jane more than 13 years ago and have lost touch with her. The last time we were in contact with her grandson Davey a few years back, he told us Mary Jane had been ill, having trouble getting around, and she stopped carving about 8 years ago--a true collector's traditional fetish! We hope Mary Jane is still doing well!
