Information from search:
The Turtle is a symbol of Mother Earth. He represents self-reliance, tenacity, and longevity.
Florentino Martinez
is an accomplished Zuni carver who often uses fossilized ivory or amber to carve bugs and insects. Florentino's first carvings in the early 1990s were simple, however, by 1996 his fetishes became very intricate, precise and detailed. Florentino carves more complex fetish art forms, including fetish animals and the Kolowisi or Zuni Water Serpent.
Tino has been carving ever since the early 1990s. He has always loved delicate fetishes with superb detail - dragonflies with delicate wings, dancers with finely carved weapons, etc. For Tino, detail is paramount.
The Zunis feel that it is the spirit within the fetish that is of value, not the object itself. The Zunis regard ceremonial fetishes in carefully dictated ways, while no strict guidelines apply to non-ceremonial fetishes.
